Editor research

Research into editing

What does a film editor do?
A film editor works with raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into a sequence to produce a finished motion picture. The editor works closely with the director before shooting begins, deciding how to maximise the potential of screenplay.

Premier pro CC 2015

  • Editing in premier pro
  • setting up a project and sequence
  • Importing and organising media
  • Marketing and selecting the best takes from clips
  • Performing insert, overwrite and replace edits
  • Trimming, splitting, moving and deleting clips
  • Audio editing and mixing
  • Recording voice overs
  • Applying transisitions, effects and filters
  • Chaning clip speed
  • Creating titles
  • Exporting final project

First on Premier Pro CC you are gonna set up your project where you can name it and choose where you want the project to be saved to.

2.

Next in the top left hand box is where you import in the media, you can either drag and drop the media into the box or import them.

3.

Premier Pro CC will preview the media as their form however you can change them by clicking 'lists'.

Once the videos are changed to list form it will show their size and fps (frames per second). If the videos are shot on two different devices their fps may be different.

You can click on the video which you want to see the properties and click prview area which will show the properties.

From this you can see that even though the fps are different the size of the videos are still the same as Premier Proo will format it.

4.

Now when selecting a new clip, right click the desired video and select 'new sequence from clip'

5.

Once a new clip is selected, Premier Pro will build a timeline based on the settings of the clip.

6.

At the beginning of a project you are gonna want to have a title and although Premier pro provide titles you can aslo make titles on Adobe After Effects. To do this you you select 'File', 'Adobe Dynamic Link' and then 'New After Effects Composistion'.

7.
Now Adobe After Effects is opened there is a box on the right hand side labelled 'Effects and Presets'. First go into 'Animation Presets', then 'Texts' To view these animations, click 'Browse Presets'.

8.

Once 'Browse Presets' is selected Adobe Bridge CC will open.
This is where it will preview all the animations.

9.

Once the animation is chosen, double click it and it will be added to the composisition.

10.

To change the text, simply double click it where it will be highlighted then type out what you want.
Once yuor title is completed, click 'File' and then 'Save'.

11.

The composistion will then appear where the other media is. You click and drag the title onto your timeline.

12.
To view a video you can double click it, where it will apear in the source box next to it. With these two buttons you can chose whether to just drag the audio into the sequence, or the video without the audio.

13.
When the transition is added if it does not fade out directly after you can select the clip, press 'Ctrl' and then 'd' on the keyboard for default. This will make the clip fade out to black.

14.

Now when adding the music you can simply drag the audio from the media section and onto the timeline. However, the music will need to be clipped down to the size of the film as well as a transition needing to be added to it doesn't abruptly end. To do this, select the music, click 'Audio Transitions, 'Cross fade' then drag 'Exponential fade' on to the end of the video.
