The main character in our film is portrayed as a female. This conforms to the horror genre because stereotypically in horror films, women play the vulnerable victim who is targeted by an individual.
The main character being a female conforms to the character, Madison, in the horror film 'Hush'.
From research of other horror films we used the typical views of other females and dressed our protagonist similarly. For example, we looked at horror films like 'The Last House On The Left' where the female protagonist is dressed in casual clothes. We therefore reflected this in our film by dressing our main character in casual, everyday clothing. This could bring a sense of realism to our film and the reality that being attacked can happen to anyone.
Although 'Hush' is a US horror film and our film is a UK based film, the clothing is similar. In our film our protagonist is wearing a blue dress and in the film 'Hush'. the protagonist is wearing a jacket and a pair of jeans. Also, through further research of other horror films like 'House at the end of the street', the female protagonist is wearing casual clothing. This shows that our film conforms to horror conventions of clothing.
Both the characters activity can be considered as typical, which is shown through the medium shot of both of them because their facial expressions communicate that they are frightened but also in shock.
Our film and our influential film differ but also have similarities when it comes to location and setting. Our film and our influential film differ because 'Hush' is mainly set in Madison's house unlike our film which is set in the woods. However, that is where our film and our influential film share similarities because 'Hush' is also partially set in the woods. Both the settings are desolate and isolated which conforms to horror conventions of incidents happening in areas where no-one is around to help. However, the film 'Hush' is set at night when it is dark, creating an eerie atmosphere as you don't know who is around but our film is set in daylight, therefore subverting horror conventions.
Our film conforms to the horror genre when we shot our chase scene, This is because in both our film and 'Hush' you can see the protagonist clearly as they are in focus while in the background there is nothing, not even people chasing them which creates a sense of mystery because no-one knows who the protagonist is running from.
Overall, I think these differences like clothing and camerawork represent a young, intimidated social group as the main character in my film is dressed casual but with a terror-stricken demeanor.

Another social group represented that plays an important role in our film is the people in masks. The three main characters in our film have masks, hiding their identity. This conforms to the horror conventions because like another influential film known as 'The Purge' there is a mixture of males and females wearing masks. However, our film only consists of males.
With out film being a UK based film and 'The Purge' being a US based film, the clothing is very different, meaning our film has subverted the horror conventions.
In our film 'The Masked Ones', all our characters are dressed in black clothing but in 'The Purge', the characters are dressed in normal day clothes such as dresses and suits. This creates a sense of realism.
The Masked ones' activity would be interpreted as typical which is shown through the long shot of them because just like the antagonists in 'The Purge' it is to show intimidation but also power.
The location of our film differs from the location of our influential film, this is because our film is filmed in a forest however 'The Purge' is based in and around a house.
